The Student of the Month program at Mount Pleasant Area High School looks to recognize senior students.
Any 7-12 teacher may make a nomination. Some of the criteria that can be used to write the nomination is: Being respectful, responsible, mindful, and dependable. The student can display a positive attitude, good citizenship, and a desire to learn. Some students are positive role models while others are very involved in community service. The teacher writes a short essay about the student.
The nominations are then sent to a committee of seven teachers (changes monthly) to evaluate the essays. Each committee member votes for one student. The student with the most votes is named the Student of the Month.
The chosen student of the month then goes to lunch ( at a venue of his/her choosing) with the nominating teacher and a Viking Foundation member. He/She is also recognized at the monthly school board meeting.
